The Property Manager will ensure a high-quality outdoor experience and safe and healthy camp environment through the year-round maintenance of our Windy Meadows and Piperwood properties.



  • Minimize risk and promote a healthy environment through the upkeep of all grounds, buildings and structures including, but not limited to:
    • Spring/Summer : mow grass, perform landscaping, water lawns, feed and trim shrubs/trees and tend flowerbeds;
    • Fall/Winter : Plow and shovel snow, remove ice from sidewalks, cut firewood, perform minor road repairs and inside building maintenance including cleaning as necessary;
    • Year-Round : repair and maintain equipment and tools, interior and exterior painting, basic repairs (bringing in experts for more in-depth projects).
  • Ensure that all structures and features comply with ACA (American Camping Association) and GSWNY and GSUSA policies and standard, as well as any applicable federal, state, and/or local laws;
  • Collaborate with camp staff to obtain and maintain required licenses and permits;
  • Develop strong working relationships with local officials, inspectors, contractors and vendors;
  • Collaborate with the Chief Outdoor and Property Officer to develop annual budgets and directly manage various expense lines;
  • Manage part-time and seasonal Property staff member(s) at Piperwood campsite;
  • Provide exceptional customer service to Property Renters (Girl Scout Volunteers as well as outside rentals);
  • Manage property usage and maintenance schedules (including site rentals by outside groups, Girl Scouts and council-run programs);
  • Collaborate with the Chief Outdoor and Property Officer to continuously improve experience for girls and others visiting our camps;
  • Respond to emergencies and work requiring immediate need on tight deadlines (including on weekends) as needed;
  • Support the Council’s strategic goals and mission as an active and engaged member of the GSWNY team.


Other duties may be assigned as needed. GSWNY maintains the right to add, change or alter the functions of this position at any time.


Experience and Skills:


(or ability to complete training and maintain certification upon employment provided by GSWNY):

  • High School degree or equivalent;
  • Supervisory experience preferred;
  • Minimum of two years maintenance/custodial experience;
  • Swimming Pool Certification;
  • Water Testing Certification;
  • Two or more years of general construction experience preferred;
  • Proficient in appropriate use of hand and power tools;
  • Must be able to identify, wear and utilize all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow directions accurately;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly;
  • Maintain reliable transportation to-and-from work;
  • Capacity to manage stress effectively and work well under pressure;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule when required, included overtime and weekends as needed;
  • Strong time management skills with ability to work independently and effectively prioritize duties and tasks in order to successfully meet and manage multiple deadlines;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, meet minimum state auto insurance requirements, and meet Council insurance carrier’s requirements for coverage;
  • Successfully pass the required background checks at hire and thereafter;
  • Subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement and become a registered member of GSUSA.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; walk on uneven surfaces; repeatedly grasp and hold equipment/objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl;
  • The employee must be able to safely lift up to 50lbs;
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to insects, wildlife, and various weather conditions (i.e. extreme temperature, humidity, rain and snow).
  • Exposure to dust and odors may occur.



  • 40 hours per week; overtime and weekends as needed;
  • Travel within council jurisdiction to various properties as needed;
  • Travel for training as needed (property conferences, certification trainings, etc.).
